Due to “hardware limitations,” Google announced in a recent edition of The Android Show on the Android Developers channel on YouTube that Gemini Nano will not be available for the Pixel 8.
Gemini Nano is a mobile-friendly version of Google’s new AI model, initially launched on the Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung S24 Series for AI features.
While the Pixel 8 won’t support Gemini Nano, Google says they are planning to extend its compatibility to more high-end devices soon.
It has been observed that the RAM capacity—8GB and 12GB, respectively—between the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro is what separates them and is essential for using Gemini Nano.
Google believes integrating such an intensive model might negatively impact the overall user experience.
While this exclusivity sets Pro models apart, the upcoming Pixel 9 is anticipated to feature Gemini Nano, given its potentially superior processor.
