The majority of you are probably already aware of Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing, which was initially made public last year. On July 20, 2023, Netflix began officially emailing members in India and other countries, making this a reality. Now it appears that Disney+ Hotstar is currently attempting to emulate Netflix. Read on to learn more.
Disney+ Hotstar Password Crackdown Incoming!
According to Reuters’ most recent report, one of India’s most well-known streaming services, Disney+ Hotstar, is trying to introduce a new password-sharing policy there. Only four devices will be allowed for premium members under this new rule.
We looked into it, and it appears that the streaming service has already begun applying this rule in India. Instead of the previous cap of 10, the Premium subscription is now only limited to 4 devices. The OTT’s website displays this modification. But, Disney+ Hotstar hasn’t yet issued a statement.
However, an insider with Reuters indicated that current Premium subscribers can still log in to 10 devices, and the change would be made mandatory for them by the end of the year. This action has been taken in the hopes that customers will buy their own accounts rather than relying on others. It is unknown whether this restriction is applicable to other Disney+ Hotstar plans.
Disney+ Hotstar provides a Super Plan for Rs 899 per year and a Premium Plan for Rs 1,499 per year or Rs 299 per month, for those who are unaware. Users of Android and iOS can purchase a separate mobile plan for Rs 149 for three months or Rs 499 for a year. You will get access to the complete Disney+ Hotstar catalogue with the Premium Plan, allowing you to stream material on both your laptop and smart TV. Also, you will be able to stream material at 4K 2080p with Dolby Atmos compatibility and take advantage of content without advertisements (except for sports).
So, what are your thoughts on this latest development? Do you think this will reduce the user base of the OTT platform? Will you prefer Disney+ Hotstar’s Premium Plan moving forward? Do share your thoughts in the comment section below.
