Google revealed Monday that a Pixel hardware event will take place on October 6 following the teaser of the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch at the I/O 2022 conference in May. Additionally, Google has stated that the second-generation “Tensor G2” chip will power its forthcoming Pixel devices.
The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, followed by the Pixel 6a recently, were the first devices to include the “Google Tensor” technology. The Google Tensor SoC, which has 8 cores and a Mali-G78 MP20 GPU, was created using a 5nm technology. In order to improve CPUs like Exynos, Google and Samsung collaborated to create the Google-designed smartphone processor.
On the device’s newly updated official website, mention of the “Google Tensor G2” processor used by the Pixel 7 has been added. The Tensor G2 should be a part of both the Pixel 7a and whichever foldable smartphone Google delivers in 2019 if its track record from this year holds true. The Tensor G2 SoC, according to Google, is used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to enhance speech recognition, security, and image and video processing.
For those who might have forgotten, Google’s first specialised SoC was given the internal designation GS101 but is now only known as the Google Tensor Processor. We have known that Google’s forthcoming Pixel phones will utilise a second-generation Tensor chip known as “GS201” since last November.
The business’s branding plan for the new gear hasn’t been made apparent, either. These are possibly signs as to what we may expect to learn about at the event next month because Google has been somewhat silent about the software on the Pixel 7 and has instead only shown off the device’s aesthetics.
The Tensor G2 is rumoured to use Samsung’s 4nm LPE technology, have four Cortex A55 cores, two Cortex X1 cores, and two Cortex A78 cores. It is anticipated that the Tensor G2 would surpass the 800,000 AnTuTu running score.
The word “security” may relate to Google’s ongoing development of a face unlock function for the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, or it may refer to broader security improvements as contrasted to those for earlier Pixel models.
